About Herr Ehrhard Unfiltered Riesling
With 9 hectares of old vineyards in one of the best places for cultivating the native Riesling variety, on the slopes of the Rüdhesheim mountain in Rheingau (Germany), Carl and Petra Ehrhard spend their everyday lives in total calm and harmony. In 1998, as a direct consequence of Carl’s exhausting work and Petra’s mountain bike accident, they decided to change their lives and take over the family winery, which was founded more than 150 years ago. Their motto is to make the most of the time by fusing tradition with innovation, and their dry style wines made with classic varieties are placed, year after year, at the top of Rüdesheim’s wine list.
Among their most decorated wines is Herr Ehrhard Unfiltered Riesling. A wine made from two old Riesling vineyards planted on quartzite soils and organically cultivated without herbicides or pesticides. Once the grapes are harvested by hand, they are destemmed and thoroughly selected in the winery. Maceration lasts 12 hours, followed by spontaneous fermentation in large wooden barrels (1200L) for 12 weeks without temperature control. The wine is then aged for 13 months in a combination of 1200L and 600L wooden barrels. Finally the wine is bottled without being filtered.
Herr Ehrhard Unfiltered Riesling is a gentlemanly wine characterised by its juiciness, freshness and expressiveness. A true gentleman who year after year finds himself in the top 10 of the best wines of the Rüdesheim area. A very accessible Riesling to leave you speechless.
2020 | Herr Ehrhard Unfiltered Riesling 2020 is a finely contoured white wine, bursting with vivid citrus aromas interwoven with herbaceous nuances and hints of minerality. On the palate, it is robust, exuding a delightful vivacity and is eminently approachable. This wine is succulent, well-rounded, and culminates in an enticingly spicy finish. |
