Herència Altés Trementinaire 2021 is a bright and highly aromatic orange wine. On the nose, it features notes of herbs, plants, and dehydrated orange peel, reminiscent of the scents of old wineries. On the palate, it is fresh and intense, with a dry and elegant profile. A full-bodied and characterful wine that offers a unique and sophisticated experience. With only 4,000 bottles produced, it is a gem waiting to be discovered.

About Herència Altés Trementinaire

Although for a long time, household economy was considered the responsibility of the man of the house, the truth is that women were one of the great driving forces of the domestic economy with peculiar trades such as seamstress, midwife, or "trementinaire." In the case of the latter, it was an itinerant trade where women from mountainous areas dedicated themselves to collecting medicinal herbs and essential oils for the preparation and commercialization of remedies. Turpentine was their main product, which gave them their name, and it was primarily used to disinfect wounds of people and animals. In memory of this figure that reclaims the authenticity of our surroundings, Herència Altés, the project of Nuria Altés and her partner Rafael de Haan, presents us with a skin-contact garnacha that evokes memories of a bygone era.

Originating from the impressive mountainous landscape of Batea (Terra Alta), Herència Altés Trementinaire is a garnacha from old vines that is organically cultivated and hand-harvested in 18Kg boxes. Afterwards, in the winery, the grapes are selected, destemmed, and transferred to a stainless steel tank to cool the must with the skins. Fermentation is carried out spontaneously with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. After 4 weeks in contact with the skins, the wine remains in used 500 l. and 300 l. barrels to initiate an oxidative ageing process of 24 months.

In this way, Herència Altés Trementinaire not only captures the essence of the Terra Alta landscape, but also celebrates the strength and resilience of the "trementinaires," women who traveled great distances to share their knowledge and natural remedies. An oenological treasure that invites you to relive stories and enjoy the richness of our natural heritage.
