About Goyo García Finca Los Quemados Clarete

Goyo was born, grew up and learned the winemaking trade in his family’s prestigious company Valduero. A highly respected project known for being one of the first to be founded in the D.O. Ribera del Duero back in 1984. However, his eagerness to grow and produce natural wines led him to set up his own winery in 2003. Influenced by renowned natural winemakers like Pierre Overnoy from Jura, he embarked on a very interesting winemaking adventure with his delighted wife Diana Semova Geogieva. Although the Ribera del Duero denomination speaks for itself, the truth is that the wines made at Goyo García Viticultor are a pleasant surprise.

One of the wines you will find in their interested collection is Goyo García Finca Los Quemados Clarete, a rosé from unique plots located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, in the town of Villanueva de Gumiel, Burgos. With the aim of going back to the past and letting the vineyard express itself, Finca Los Quemados works with very old Tempranillo vines aged over 50 years old and other white varieties planted at an altitude of over 900 metres above sea level on poor soils with red sand and pebbles. The vines are grown under organic certification and harvested by hand at the optimum point of ripeness. The grapes are then selected and destemmed in the winery. They then undergo a short maceration of 3-4 days with drawing off from the bottom and co-fermentation of red and white grapes together in French oak barrels, as they used to do in the Ribera del Duero. Malolactic fermentation is then carried out in the same barrel where the wine remains until bottling without adding SO2, without clarifying and without filtering.

This style of winemaking with short macerations is what Goyo calls “claret”. A rosé wine made from a blend of red and white grapes that invites you to enjoy a return to the past with today’s advanced knowledge. Highly recommended!

2020

Goyo García Finca Los Quemados Clarete 2021 is a rosé wine boasting strawberry aromas, underbrush herbaceous nuances, and mountain balsamic hints. On the palate, it is light, crisp, and fruit-forward. A wine of moderate persistence, its virtue lies not in flamboyance but in sincerity.
