About Giovanni Rosso Etna Bianco
A terroir is unique and is formed by the combination of all the natural influences of the terrain, like geological composition, location, climatology and the vines themselves, which means the results can be infinite depending on the winemaker’s own work. This is how Giovanni Rosso, a family estate that has been growing grapes in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba in Piedmont (Italy) since the 1890s, decided to explore new vineyards on the other side of the country. In 2016 he bought a small 4.5 ha plot in the village of Solicchiata, in Sicily, and started a recovery work following the same mantra that has made the original winery in Piedmont so famous: “the wine must be a perfect copy of its terroir.”
This is how Giovanni Rosso Etna Bianco was born, a white wine made by Davide, Giovanni’s son, who works this plot at the foot of the Etna volcano at 750 metres above sea level. These are old vines of the native Carricante variety planted on volcanic soils and cultivated in a respectful way to preserve the maximum purity of the terroir. Once the grapes are harvested by hand, the grapes are carefully selected and destemmed. It then spends some time on skins and ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine remains on the lees for about 5 months before bottling.
So, with the intention of reflecting all the elegance and minerality of the volcanic soil of Etna and following the winemaking techniques that have given so much prestige to this Piedmont winery, Giovanni Rosso Etna Bianco is a pure reflection of its place of origin.
2021 | Giovanni Rosso Etna Bianco 2021 is a defined white wine with light aromas of white fruits and flowers, notes of Mediterranean forest and mineral hints. On the palate it is fresh, smooth and elegant. A light wine with vibrant acidity, a pleasant mid-palate and a dry, saline finish. |
