About Giovanni Rosso Barolo
Giovanni Rosso Barolo is a red wine crafted by the esteemed winery Giovanni Rosso within the prestigious D.O.C.G. Barolo, nestled in the northern reaches of Italy, in the illustrious Piedmont region. Here, for over a century, the Rosso family has been immersed in the art of winemaking. The recent generations, embodied by Giovanni Rosso and his progeny Davide, have endeavored not only to uphold the family enterprise but also to encapsulate the distinctive essence of their terroir. "The wine must be an immaculate reflection of its Terroir," they proclaim with conviction. Consequently, each bottle that departs from their winery is a genuine manifestation of Serralunga d'Alba, a vineyard perched in the elevated terrain of the eponymous municipality, a cherished asset of the family since 1946.
To them, their soil is "enchanting," comprised of chalky and strikingly pale earth, which they regard as unparalleled globally. Within these vineyards, planted in 1984, only the nebbiolo, Piedmont's most venerable red grape variety and the undisputed sovereign of the region, is cultivated. Following the harvest in mid-October, the grapes are conveyed to the winery where they undergo meticulous selection and processing. Subsequently, the must is transferred to concrete vats, where it will ferment for approximately 25 days. Midway through this period, a delestage is performed. This technique, aimed at enhancing the color and other constituents, involves draining all the wine from the vat while the yeasts are active. After several hours, the wine is reintroduced to the vat, thus achieving heightened aeration and a proliferation of the microorganisms responsible for fermentation. Ultimately, Giovanni Rosso Barolo will mature for 18 to 36 months (dependent on the vintage) in 50 hL French oak casks.
Indeed, it is the closest one can come to savoring a morsel of the authentic Piedmont.
