About Gérard Schueller Gewurztraminer CP
The Alsace wine route is a sightseeing tour through the main wine-growing areas of the French region of Alsace. A long trail of 170 km between the Upper Rhine plain and the Vosges massif where numerous wineries produce wines with great Alsatian character. However, not all of them are doing the same thing. At the highest part of the route, 8km from Colmar, the wine capital of Alsace, Bruno Schueller produces wines that are both different and fascinating, the result of minimal intervention and maximum contemplation. Since taking over the estate from his father Gérard Schueller in 2001, he has converted the 10 hectares of vineyard into being managed biodynamically and has become one of the leading producers of natural wines in the region.
His Gérard Schueller Gewurztraminer CP wine is a single-variety Gewürztraminer from 30-50 year old vines located in different clay-limestone plots. No chemical products are used on them and only biodynamic treatments are applied, taking into account the lunar phases. In the winery, they also try to allow the fruit to extract its maximum expression by itself through direct pressing and spontaneous fermentation in vats. The wine is then aged on the lees for 8 months and finally bottled unfiltered, unclarified and without the addition of sulphites.
Although Gérard Schueller Gewurztraminer CP breaks all the stereotypes of a classic Alsatian wine, it is a powerful, mineral and saline cuvée that has already won over the most demanding palates.
2019 |
Gérard Schueller Gewurztraminer CP 2019 is an aromatic wine with a rich nose of tropical fruit, citrus notes and mineral hints. The palate is powerful, clean and very lively. A wine with a beautiful mineral structure, well-integrated acidity and a very mineral finish. |
