About Gaba do Xil O Barreiro
Always remember this one grape: Godello. And write down the name of this wine: Gaba do Xil O Barreiro. It’s your turn to choose the wine or you’re the host. This will always leave a good impression. They will always remember.
Who hasn’t felt the pressure at a gathering of friends when everyone leaves the choice to you (come on, you choose, you know what you’re doing!). For these situations, Gaba do Xil O Barreiro by Telmo Rodríguez is the perfect choice.
Right at the beginning, when the bottle has just been placed on the table, you can start by saying that Gaba do Xil O Barreiro is an Atlantic wine, with a continental influence, made by winemaker Telmo Rodriguez. I’m sure you will leave everyone speechless.
Does the group include an ultra-defensive champion of Spanish wines? No problem. They will be more than satisfied when you tell them that Gaba do Xil O Barreiro is made in the Galician D.O. Valdeorra, northwest of Ourense, in northern Spain, right in their own vineyard called O Barreiro (which is where the wine gets its name from).
Are there any other connoisseurs who like to talk about terroir? Impress them with the 16 hectares of granitic and slate soil, the oceanic-continental climate and the tributaries of the Sil that flow through the valley where the vineyard grows.
Anyone interested in grapes? Explain Godello to them and explain that for years the D.O. Valdeorras has championed this white variety, which brings out the best in its wines and becomes the hallmark of the area.
And are there any other ‘connoisseurs’ left who will try and put you on the spot by talking about winemaking? (The tannins in this wine are spectacular, aren’t they?). Tell them that Gaba do Xil O Barreiro ferments in stainless steel tanks and ages on lees for about four months.

2022 | Gaba do Xil O Barreiro 2022 is a straw yellow coloured white, it is defined and very fruity with bright tones. Expressive and fresh, balsamic and tasty, this is a very easy to drink wine, ideal for gatherings and moments of sharing. White flowers and strawberry grass also appear on the nose. The palate is smooth, with a very good texture. In one word: expressive. |
