About G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe
Nebbiolo, the most famous and prestigious red grape from Piedmont, Italy, owes its name to the Italian word “nebbia”, which means “fog” and refers to the intense fog that fills the Langhe region early in the morning during the harvest in October. As Milena Vajra, owner of one of the legendary wineries in the G.D. Vajra says, “The true beauty of Alba is the caress of the sun that rises every morning at three different times over the vineyards.” Inspired by this daily miracle of life, this family of passionate winegrowers produces G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe, a truly poetic Barolo that conveys the exceptional simplicity of nature.
Its creators, Aldo Vajra (PhD in Agricultural Engineering and Professor of Enology) and his wife Milena, are a clear-headed couple whose passion for wine wasn’t a family tradition but has been developed through their own skills. Passionate champions of native varieties and large Slavonian oak barrels, they consider themselves neither traditionalists nor modernists, just plain barolists. Their G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe red wine comes from old Nebbiolo vines bought in the municipality of Barolo with the best possible exposures. In the vineyard, treatments are carried out with the utmost respect for the soil and synthetic products are only used when strictly necessary. The grapes are harvested by hand with a rigorous grape selection process and then, in the winery, the best berries are re-selected. Fermentation is carried out at controlled temperature with a long maceration and finally the wine, as tradition dictates, is aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels in order to faithfully express the sense of terroir.
The result is simply excellent. G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe is an elegant, complex and delicate red wine. An authentic Barolo that is capable of uniquely expressing the best oenological essence of the Piedmont lands at dawn and that has earned the admiration of the most knowledgeable.
2019 | G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe 2019 is a concentrated red wine that on the nose, takes you on a stroll through a garden of flowers and ripe fruits like tart cherries, blueberries and slightly unruly citrus. It also gives off a touch of spice and that aromatic woody, medicinal herb and wormwood vibe. On the palate, it is like an agile hero with tannins that go well with everything. |
