About Frisach Les Alifares
Although the word "alifara" is not very common in modern vocabulary, especially among younger generations, it has a fascinating history. In the Middle Ages, "alifara" was used to describe the feast or meal offered to celebrate the culmination of an important agreement or deal. Over time, this term evolved, and although its use has become rare, its essence remains in our current word for a grand banquet. Frisach, the family winery founded in 2004 in the town of Corbera d’Ebre (D.O. Terra Alta), which is committed to indigenous varieties and natural wines, pays homage to tradition and celebrations with a wine that, as its name suggests, invites one to savour a true "alifara" in every glass.
Under the guidance of Francesc Ferré and his brother Joan, Frisach Les Alifares is an orange wine made from the garnacha gris variety. The vines, owned by the winery, are cultivated organically among olive trees and other crops on the same estate. Once the grapes reach their optimal ripeness, they are hand-harvested. In the winery, following an ancestral methodology, the selected grapes are macerated for two weeks and then the wine ages on its lees for 8 months.
As indicated on the label of this wine, Frisach Les Alifares is the result of "Temps i pells" (time and skins in Catalan), reflecting the patience and care that has been invested in each bottle and inviting one to celebrate special moments around the table.
