About Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Caiño Tinto

Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Caiño Tinto is a wood-aged red wine made by Eulogio Pomares with the Caíño Tinto native variety in the D.O. Rías Baixas.
 
The Eulogio Pomares winery dates back to 1920 when Ernesto Zárate started producing great Albariños in the heart of the Salnés valley. The third generation Zárate is now working with the same objective as the founder. This well-established work has earned them a position among the 100 best wineries in the world according to Wine & Spirit magazine in 2014. 
 
Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Caiño Tinto comes from a plot near the mouth of the Umia river with poor soils composed of granite and with strains planted over 70 years ago. The vines are cultivated using traditional agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually in 15 kg boxes, with the grapes selected in the vineyard itself. 
 
In the winery the grapes are vatted whole without destemming. The Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Caiño Tinto must then ferments spontaneously with native yeasts in open concrete vats and finally the wine ages in chestnut foudres for 8 months.
 
Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Caiño Tinto is a single-variety red that starts life under the direct influence of the Atlantic Ocean. A tribute to a wine-growing region characterised by its poor and sunny soils. 
 
2018 Eulogio Pomares Carralcoba Caiño Tinto 2018 is a smooth red wine with intense aromas of small forest fruits with floral notes of roses and herbaceous touches. On the palate it is fresh and smooth. A medium-bodied wine with polished tannins and integrated acidity. Its passage is long and has a certain mineral character.
