About El Reventón
El Reventón is a red wine crafted by Alejandro Vigil, Adrianna Catena y Gearóid Lane in the Sierra de Gredos, under the auspices of the D.O. Cebreros.
It is produced from ancient vineyards, approximately 80-90 years old, of the Garnacha variety planted in the Valle del Reventón, in the small village of Cebreros.
El Reventón is an exceedingly narrow valley with very limited sunlight, and the vineyards are situated at an altitude of 900 metres, on quartz slate and red clay soils. This is an area with a harsh climate, enduring extremely cold winters. The result is exceptionally fresh wines, made from grapes that are not overly ripened.
Vigil adheres to an entirely respectful form of agriculture, grounded in the principles of organic farming, and employs a minimally interventionist approach in winemaking, striving to convey the terroir's typicity to the fullest extent. The grapes are destemmed and cold macerated before undergoing fermentation in French oak vats, using indigenous yeasts from the vineyard itself. The ageing process takes place in a combination of oak and concrete barrels for 11 months.
El Reventón is a remarkably fresh and expressive Garnacha. A wonderful wine, with substantial power.

2017 | It’s been a tough year at Sierra de Gredos but one with great results. The effects of adverse weather has led to low production volume for this vintage. Nighttime frosts on three consecutive days in April affected the growth cycle. During flowering, constant rains caused irregular development of the flower, resulting in the partial loss of production. This was followed by an extreme drought that lasted until the end of the year. Adding to the adverse weather, hailstorms appearing on two days, July 7 and August 28, resulted in production losses of up to 50% in some areas. Regarding the end results for the wines, according to Daniel Landi it has been challenging year, both for the vineyard and for the winery. In order to process what was a difficult vintage, they’ve had to retool the production process, with some excellent results: low production volumes but great wines that are light and refined. As Dani put it, “wines that travel northward, moving away from the Mediterranean character of the vintage.”
2016 | One of the wines that we most liked out of all the ones we tasted from this vintage. As soon as you smell its balsamic and sublime aromas you can tell it is something special. It is also a delight for the palate, subtlety, small nuances and fruitiness, minerals and ethereal notes that make it a fantastic wine.
2011 | On the palate it is a wine that is full of flavour with a good acidity and very fresh. In the mouth there appear red fruit notes and spices with chocolate and a lot of minerality. By sight it is a pretty red garnet colour. On the nose it is rich in nuances, freshness and fragrance. Black fruits, red fruits, balsamic notes, flowers like roses or violets and spices. |
