About Domaine Mee Godard AOC Beaujolais Villages Tinto

If you are a true red wine enthusiast, you have probably tasted Beaujolais Nouveaux at some point. However, if you think that this alone makes you an expert on the wines of Beaujolais, you are gravely mistaken. We regret to inform you that sampling these young wines, which are often laden with large amounts of sugars and industrial yeasts to expedite fermentation (resulting in banana-like aromas), does not make you a connoisseur of this region. On the other hand, if you wish to delve deeper and discover the authentic essence of these red wines, we recommend you try Domaine Mee Godard AOC Beaujolais Villages Tinto.

Domaine Mee Godard AOC Beaujolais Villages Tinto is a single-varietal Gamay crafted by Mee Godard, one of the most intriguing winemakers in the current landscape who has been revolutionising Beaujolais since 2013. In a disruptive manner, Godard is part of a new generation of vintners aiming to distance themselves from the traditional Beaujolais Nouveaux to start vinifying independent cuvées that can ferment and mature without the constraints of time. Mee Godard's base of operations is situated within the A.O.C. Morgon (with five hectares), the A.O.C. Moulin-à-Vent (with one hectare), and the A.O.C. Beaujolais-Villages, where she often purchases grapes in the commune of Quincié. Here, on soils of granite, sand, and volcanic rocks, the Gamay vines thrive under the sun of this terroir, acquiring a unique and unparalleled profile. This area is also notable for its steep vineyards, ranging from 200 to 500 meters in altitude. Given these conditions, manual labour becomes a necessity, as most machinery cannot access the slopes of these vineyards. Mee Godard passionately undertakes this work (she knows no other way) and adheres to a biodynamic philosophy, showing total respect for the environment.

The grapes for Domaine Mee Godard AOC Beaujolais Villages Tinto are meticulously selected during the harvest. Only the finest grapes are chosen for the extended macerations (lasting over 15 days) and the prolonged ageing processes that Mee Godard favours. Just as tourist circuits do not guarantee an authentic experience of a place (only the most daring travellers have that privilege), the most famous wines do not necessarily ensure the best quality. While the marketing of Beaujolais Nouveaux is worthy of study, their bottles are not as remarkable. Domaine Mee Godard AOC Beaujolais Villages Tinto is far more intriguing. Stop being a wine tourist and become a true oenological traveller.
