About Domaine Lafage Arqueta

Domaine Lafage Arqueta is made in the A.O.P Collioure, right in the easternmost part of the Pyrenees. It is true that Roussillon is known for its naturally sweet wines, but this dry red, produced by the Lafage winery, has nothing to envy in those. For seven generations this family business has known how to get the best out of this area. Now, they have become key in the area, making wines of great character.

Today, Jean-Marc and Eliane have inherited the expertise, passed down over centuries, which has made them true experts in managing the mixed Roussillon terroir. Their Domaine Lafage Arqueta starts life in La Costa Rocosa, one of the vineyards that are part of this domaine’s 350 hectares. This vineyard lies right on the Mediterranean, on the Spanish border, on a narrow road leading to Banyuls. Brown, brittle and disintegrated slate abounds here, and it is home to vineyards aged over 50 years old. The slopes are also a characteristic element of this landscape, with narrow terraces overlooking the sea.

Domaine Lafage Arqueta is harvested by hand, just when the grapes have reached optimum ripeness. This happens during the months of August and September thanks to the maritime influences of the Mediterranean and the abundant hours of sunshine in the area. The grapes are sorted and selected, and Domaine Lafage Arqueta is then vatted for fermentation. All the varieties, red Grenache, Grenache gris, Syrah and Carignan, are vinified together in the same tank, always at a constant temperature of 25°C. Finally, Domaine Lafage Arqueta is left to macerate for about four weeks and part of the cuvée is aged for six months in Burgundy barrels. Get to know the A.O.P. Colliure with Domaine Lafage Arqueta!
