About Domaine de la Pierre Gravée Inspirations Vouvray

In the heart of the Loire Valley, where the river carves its path through rolling hills, ancient vineyards, and fairy-tale castles, not only is wine cultivated, but stories also blossom. One of the most beautiful was penned by none other than Honoré de Balzac, who, as the tale goes, stayed in these lands of Vouvray while writing one of his most lyrical and melancholic novels: "Le Lys dans la Vallée" (The Lily of the Valley), published in 1835 as part of his ambitious literary fresco "La Comédie humaine."

A place like this not only inspires literature… it also yields exceptional wines. And although Philippe Guyonnet was not born among barrels, wine found him as good novels do: unexpectedly and transformatively. First, he savoured it, then he studied it, and later he cultivated it in a small experimental plot in the Mâconnais (Burgundy). But it was in Vouvray, guided by the advice of his friend Jacky Blot—a Loire legend—where he discovered his ultimate place.

There, he breathed life into Domaine de la Pierre Gravée, an 8-hectare estate practicing respectful, organic, and artisanal viticulture, without herbicides, with pruning that follows the sap flow, agroforestry, limited yields, and manual harvesting in small crates. Every detail is meticulously cared for, as if each cluster also told its own story.

Among all his wines, Inspirations Vouvray is perhaps the most personal, the most poetic. Crafted 100% from chenin blanc from 50-year-old vines grown on clay soils, this wine embodies patience and sensitivity. Each parcel is vinified separately, in a meticulous process that respects its unique character. After a slow pressing, the musts ferment without additives, and the wine is aged for 18 months in selected barrels from the prestigious Tonnellerie de Mercurey. Resting on fine lees allows the wine to gain texture, depth, and elegance without losing freshness.
