About Charlopin-Parizot Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
At the northern end of the Côte d'Or, just south of the Côte de Nuit, is the Gevrey-Chambertin AOC. The longest-living, finest and velvety red wines are produced here, grown on marl soils covered with silt and pebbles. In particular, this appellation is a land full of secrets, where the winegrowers – witnesses of centuries-old know-how – are the only ones who know how to extract the deep secrets hidden in the earth. One of them is Philippe Charlopin, who reveals all these enigmas in Charlopin-Parizot Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes.
In general, the Gevrey-Chambertin AOC is considered one of the best Burgundian vineyards that managed to charm great figures throughout history, such as Napoleon. In particular, this appellation can boast nine of the 24 grands crus of the Côte de Nuit, making it one of the most renowned terroirs. In the case of Philippe Charlopin, he is the heir to a tradition in which his family has been dedicated to the cultivation of the area's vineyards for decades. For all of them, including Philippe, the most important thing is always the terroir, which is the element that determines each wine. In this way, always under this philosophy, the Charlopin family has written its history; and will continue to do so. Today, Philippe is joined by his son Yann Charlopin, who brings a touch of modernity and innovation to this tradition that will ensure the continuity of this family business. In the vineyard, both father and son are in favour of biodynamic treatment, always respecting the environment and using only the strength and skill of their hands to work in the vineyard. Only in this way, without any chemical or phytosanitary aid, can the terroir stand out from the rest.
Obviously, the grapes will also be harvested by hand, and Charlopin-Parizot Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes will be processed in the cellar in the simplest possible way: the grapes are destemmed, the must ferments, the wine will remain in contact with the skins while macerating and Charlopin-Parizot Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes will be left to rest in barrels for at least one year. It should be noted that Philippe Charlopin was one of the first winemakers in the area who dared to experiment with wood at this stage, opting for other types of oak that would provide other matrices to the wine.
Burgundy, and especially the Côte d'Or, is a land full of secrets. Uncork a bottle of Charlopin-Parizot Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes and discover them all. We assure you that there is no better confidant than Philippe Charlopin and his son.
2020 | Charlopin-Parizot Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2020 is a ripe, deep, dark ruby-coloured red. The nose is fruity and sensual, very suggestive, with hints and aromas of strawberries, black currants, fruit stones and spices. The palate is powerful and opulent, voluminous and silky, very full, with silky tannins. Great ageing power (up to 10 years). |
