About Claus Preisinger Kalkundkiesel Weissburgunder
As Albert Einstein said “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift..” Fortunately, in the world of wine there is more than one visionary who listens to their sixth sense with the aim of bottling “real wines” that speak of the grape variety, the soil, the environment and the vintage in question. This is true for Claus Preisinger, a winemaker whose technique is based on intuition and where manual work is clearly a priority. He is a member of Pannobile, a group of nine wineries in the village of Gols, in the north of Burgenland (Austria), which was formed in 1994 to defend and promote their natural wines, a reflection of authentic territoriality.
This is how he achieves a collection of strong, honest and natural wines. The Claus Preisinger Kalkundkiesel Weissburgunder cuvée is made of Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltiner and Chardonnay vineyards planted on soils consisting of limestone and pebbles. Biodynamic agriculture is practiced and all decisions are made based on organic, social and minimalist approaches. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand, they undergo a 2-8 week maceration with native yeasts. Then the wine ages in wooden barrels for 6 months. Finally, it is bottled without clarifying, filtering or adding sulphites.
At Claus Preisinger, everything is well thought out. From the cultivation of the vines to the work in the winery. And this is very clear to see in Claus Preisinger Kalkundkiesel Weissburgunder. An honest, natural and uncompromising wine.
