About Christian Tschida Himmel auf Erden Rosé

It is evident that an artist conveys their way of thinking and feeling in each of their works. Alfred Hrdlicka, the renowned Austrian sculptor, draughtsman, painter, and artist, was a prominent activist against war, violence, and fascism, and these ideals significantly shaped the themes of his work. His body of work is a true testament to advocacy, sparking much discussion and even decisively influencing other creators. In the case of Christian Tschida, a fourth-generation winemaker tending to the 14 hectares of old vines that have belonged to the family since the 19th century in the Neusiedlersee region of Burgenland, Austria, Hrdlicka's influence is evident in his bold and committed approach to authenticity and nature. Just as the sculptor challenged conventions and stood by his principles, Tschida cultivates his vineyards with a similarly revolutionary spirit, prioritising minimal intervention practices and biodynamic methods that reflect his respect for the environment and the terroir.

The artist's influence on the winemaker is so profound that one of his wines even bears the name and image of one of his works: Himmel auf Erden (a title meaning "heaven on earth"). Christian Tschida Himmel auf Erden Rosé is a rosé wine crafted from the cabernet franc variety, sourced from old vines planted on sandy gravel soils with slate and limestone. The cultivation is organic, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. Once in the winery, the destemmed grapes are foot-trodden, and the resulting must ferments with native yeasts in oak casks. Finally, the wine rests in barrels and casks of 500 to 1,200 litres for 12 months and is bottled without fining, filtering, or adding sulphites.

Christian Tschida Himmel auf Erden Rosé is presented as a tribute to art and nature in harmony. Its name, "Heaven on Earth," not only evokes a sublime sensory experience but also represents Tschida's commitment to sincere viticulture and a profound connection with the land.
