About Bohigas Extra Brut Gran Reserva

Bohigas Extra Brut  Gran Reserva is a cava produced by Caves Bohigas in Òdena (Barcelona), D.O. Cava.

Caves Bohigas is a family winery located on the Can Macià estate, in the municipality of Òdena. This estate has more than 200 hectares of forests, fields of cereals and vineyards (over 35 hectares). The family also has 54 hectares of vineyards located in the area of Gelida, Penedés, an excellent location for the production of still wines and well adapted for red varieties.

The climate in the area is continental-Mediterranean, with highly fluctuating temperatures between day and night and very low rainfall. The soils are basically clay-calcareous. Caves Bohigas cultivates its vineyards under the influence of the Anoia River, respecting the land and seeking the maximum expression from the varieties that have adapted best. Resulting in low yields and high acidity, ideal for making high quality cava base wines.

Bohigas Extra Brut  Gran Reserva is a cava made with Xarello, Maccabeu, Parellada and Chardonnay from old vineyards that are around 50 years old located on the Can Macià estate.

Once the grape is harvested, it is pressed in the winery and the must undergoes an initial fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. The wine is aged on its lees in the bottle for a minimum of 30 months. Once the disgorgement is performed, the liqueur d’expédition is added in the maximum amount of 6 grams of sugar/litre.
