About Boekenhoutskloof The Wolftrap Red Blend

Boekenhout (Faurea saligna) is a tree that grows up to 10 or even 20 metres tall in southern Africa and its wood is perfect for making furniture. A typical Cape beech tree in the stunning Franschhoek Valley (South Africa) that Marc Kent wanted to pay homage to when he bought and restored his estate in 1993 and turned it into one of South Africa’s finest wine estates under the name Boekenhoutskloof. It is currently one of the oldest wineries in the area.

Under the name Wolftrap, their Boekenhoutskloof The Wolftrap Red Blend is a red wine dedicated to those pioneers who went into the Cape wilderness and protected themselves from wolves using traps. However, to date, no wolves have been seen in the valley. Syrah, Mourvèdre and Viogner vines were planted by Marc himself with the aim of creating a new and unique vineyard with modern technologies and superior vines. With the aim of conserving the unique biodiversity of the land, they have removed exotic plants and weeds and only use sustainable and organic methods. Once the grapes reach the winery, they undergo temperature-controlled fermentation and then the blend matures in French oak barrels, some of which are new.

As a result, Boekenhoutskloof The Wolftrap Red Blend is a red wine that perfectly reflects the spirit of the winery. A flavoursome blend that has been a flagship of South Africa’s spectacular winemaking reputation around the world.

 

2020

Boekenhoutskloof The Wolftrap Red Blend 2020 is a juicy red wine with aromas of black fruits, notes of violet flowers and hints of spice. On the palate it is rich, silky and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with smooth tannins, integrated acidity and a smoky, slightly charred, but very flavoursome finish.
