About Anselmo Mendes Pardusco Private
In Portugal, particularly in the Vinho Verde region, the term "Pardusco" has historically been used to describe certain red wines from the area that exhibit a light red or even garnet hue, rather than the deep red color more commonly associated with red wines. Also referred to as "Vinhos Pardos" or "Vinhos Tostados", these wines were crafted from indigenous grape varieties and possessed a relatively low alcohol content, generally around 10%. Despite their lighter color, these wines were renowned for their aging potential and ability to develop a distinctive complexity and smoothness over time. Embracing this unique concept from the northern winegrowing region of Portugal, Anselmo Mendes introduces Anselmo Mendes Pardusco Private.
Renowned for his focus on producing high-caliber wines using native grape varieties in the Minho Valley area of the Vinho Verde region, Mendes presents Anselmo Mendes Pardusco Private, crafted from brancellao grapes. Select vines over 30 years old, planted in granitic soil and cultivated with respect, contribute to this wine's character. When the grapes reach their optimal ripeness, they are manually harvested in small boxes. In the winery, the destemmed whole grapes are gently pressed, and the resulting must ferments in stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the wine matures in 225-liter French oak barrels for approximately 24 months.
Considering that the word "pardusco" refers to wines with a dark, murky, or grayish hue, Anselmo Mendes Pardusco Private is a wine that, through its color, reveals the character and authenticity of Portugal's age-old traditions. It stands as a viticultural symbol achieved by one of the luminaries of the Portuguese wine scene.
2017 | Anselmo Mendes Pardusco Private 2017 is a richly concentrated red wine boasting profound citrus aromas, nuances of red and stone fruits, complemented by herbaceous and earthy undertones. The palate experiences a dry, crisp, and harmonious balance. This wine is velvety in texture, characterized by a distinctly marked acidity and culminates in an enduring, silky, and highly mineral finish. |
