About Alberelli Di Giodo
Named Winemaker of the Year by Wine Enthusiast in 2008, Carlo Ferrini is an Italian winemaker, agronomist and consultant who helped improve the Sangiovese vineyards of the Chianti Classico area. A project founded in 2000 and directed with his daughter Bianca, the name Giodo comes from the contraction of the names of his parents, Giovanna and Donatello. With an annual production of only 9,000 bottles, their wines are appreciated for their elegance, complexity and distinctive character. A whole approach to work that, attracted by the unknown and increasingly seductive Etna, finds itself in Sicily with the aim of discovering all the wine potential of this region. And here begins a new adventure in this magical and unique volcanic area.
It is from this work that Alberelli Di Giodo was born, a red wine made from the native Nerello Mascalese red grape variety. A total of one and a half hectares of vineyards, divided into eight small plots that survived phylloxera (with an average age of 80 to 100 years) and which make their way through the lava-covered terraces in the traditional Alberello style (in low bushes) at an altitude of 950 metres above sea level. Once in the winery, the grapes are fermented for 7 days in stainless steel tanks with a 20-day maceration on the skins. The wine is then aged in 500 and 700 litre French barrels for 18 months, followed by a brief period in concrete. Finally, the wine rests in the bottle for 12 months before being sold.
As a result, Alberelli Di Giodo is a true sensory experience that combines fruity freshness with depth of nuance, creating a captivating balance. A spectacle of aromas and flavours that, in the hands of one of the greats of Chianti Classico, reveals the best kept secrets of the still little known Etna wine region.
