About Albamar Tinto
In a world where many regions face droughts and gaze skyward in hope of a drop of water, Galicia stands as the exception. Here, rain is plentiful and persistent, shaping a lush and vibrant landscape where nature seems to whisper life into every corner. This unique climate, which might be a challenge for some, is a privilege for Galician viticulture.
One of the wineries that perfectly understands how to leverage this environment is Albamar, located in Cambados, at the heart of the Rías Baixas. Since 2006, Xurxo Alba Padín, son of the founding family, has passionately and dedicatedly led the winery, crafting wines that are a pure reflection of their surroundings.
A notable example of his work is Albamar Tinto, a young wine that blends the espadeiro, caíño, and mencía grape varieties, cultivated on the banks of the Umia River's estuary in the Ría de Arousa, an area of gentle slopes and sandy, clay soils that enjoy a constant sea breeze. Xurxo aims to create a light, fresh, and easy-to-drink red wine, with just 11% alcohol and a vibrant acidity that makes it highly enjoyable. To achieve this, the wine ferments with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks and matures for six months in the tank, undergoing malolactic fermentation. Finally, it is refined in an oak vat for an additional three months.
The result is Albamar Tinto, a unique red wine that encapsulates the essence of Galicia: fresh, lively, and full of character. A land where rain is never scarce, where every drop counts in creating wines that captivate and connect with those who taste them.
