About Alamos Chardonnay
To anyone interested in learning about Argentine wines! Alamos Chardonnay is here! This wine is the best way to delve into Argentine wines with the help of the Catena Zapata winery, one of the area’s great winemakers.
Located in Mendoza, in the heart of the Cuyo region, this company launches this new range of wines, most of them single-variety wines, where winemaker Lucía Vaieretti once again demonstrates the company’s expertise. It is true that Catena Zapata works all the varieties very well, but they really excel with Chardonnay! This is mainly due to the fact that, especially with this variety, the company has always looked towards French and Californian producers, trying to imitate the quality of their productions. Now, with Alamos Chardonnay, the winery aims to offer a much more affordable white wine (which does not mean it is lower quality) that will lead the way towards their top range of wines.
This idea started in the Andes Mountains, in the province of Mendoza (in the centre of the country), where desert vineyards grow at high altitude and are irrigated by the mineral-rich water that comes from the summit. This location, over 1,000 metres above sea level, brings cool temperatures, clean air and many hours of sunlight. After the harvest, Alamos Chardonnay is transferred with the skins to conical stainless steel tanks where it will ferment for 15 to 18 days at a temperature between 15°C and 18°C. After this process, it is time for maceration, where Alamos Chardonnay spends 18 to 20 days in contact with the skins. After this, the wine is separated from the pomace and 65% of the total amount of Alamos Chardonnay undergoes malolactic fermentation.
Finally, Alamos Chardonnay is bottled without adding anything else, which means that what is inside the bottles is the youngest and purest expression of the Argentine Chardonnay.
