About Elio Altare Barbera d'Alba

Elio Altare Barbera d'Alba is a red wine, barrel made with the Barbera variety in the DOC Barbera d'Alba, in Piedmont, by Elio Altare.

After learning the most innovative wine growing and production techniques in Burgundy, Elio Altare returned to the Langhe to completely revolutionize the philosophy of the family winery and the entire DOC Barolo. Values such as sustainable agriculture, the use of native yeasts or the rejection of old barrels have made this winemaker an innovator of Piedmont.

Elio Altare Barbera d'Alba comes from a premier cru of calcareous and sandy composition with vines of 10 to 30 years old. Clean viticulture is practiced without the use of synthetic chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides and harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripening.

At the winery, Elio Altare Barbera d'Alba grapes macerate in their skins for approximately 3 to 4 days with temperature control. They then go through a short aging period of 5 months in used French barrels.

In a territory strongly linked to traditional winemaking, Elio Altare Barbera d'Alba is an innovative and elegant interpretation of the Piedmontese Barbera grape.
2018 Elio Altare Barbera d'Alba 2018 is a juicy red wine with elegant aromas of small black berries, sweet spices and violet notes. On the palate it’s warm, round and elegant. A smooth wine with balanced acidity and a pleasant long-lasting flavor.
