About Elio Altare Dolcetto d'Alba

Elio Altare Dolcetto d'Alba is a young red wine made from the Dolcetto variety by Elio Altare at DOC Dolcetto D'Alba (Piedmont).

When Elio Altare discovered the new winemaking techniques in Burgundy, he returned without hesitation to his native Piedmont to apply them to the family winery. More sustainable, respectful and less interventionist applications which revolutionized the traditional region of Barolo. As a consequence of all these changes, today he is considered an innovative winemaker responsible for the good reputation of Langhe wines.

Elio Altare Dolcetto d'Alba comes from vineyards of 20 to 40 years old which are planted on calcareous, sandy soil. Respectful agriculture is practiced without the use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical products which can harm the natural balance of the terroir and once the grape reaches its optimal ripening, it’s manually harvested.

At the winery, Elio Altare Dolcetto d'Alba grapes macerate in their skins for about 2 to 3 days with temperature control. The fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and the wine finally ages in stainless steel tanks for approximately 10 months before being bottled.

2018 Elio Altare Dolcetto d'Alba 2018 is a juicy red wine with the aroma of small red berries and elegant hints of violets. On the palate it’s medium bodied, light and easy to drink. A red wine with delicate tannins, balanced acidity and a fruity flavor. Ideal to serve slightly chilled in the summer.
