About El Sueño Bobal Cepas Centenarias Caliza

El Sueño Bobal Cepas Centenarias Caliza is a barrel-aged red wine made by Bruno Murciano with the Bobal variety in the D.O. Utiel-Requena (Valencia).

Thought to be one of the best Spanish sommeliers, Bruno Murciano and his brother José Luis embarked on the adventure of making their own wines in their hometown, Caudete de las Fuentes (Valencia). These are wines that showcase the Bobal native variety to the world in its most fresh and elegant expression.

El Sueño Bobal Cepas Centenarias Caliza comes from a 7 hectare plot of hundred-year-old strains lying 900 metres above sea level and planted on granitic-calcareous soils. They use environmentally-friendly agriculture and the yield is limited to 2,000 kg per hectare. When the clusters are ripe, the harvest is carried out manually in 10 kg boxes. In the vineyard, the grapes are put in a truck to cool at 2°C.

In the winery, the El Sueño Bobal Cepas Centenarias Caliza grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in open 500-litre French oak barrels being used for the fourth and fifth year. It is then aged in 500-litre barrels for 18 months. Finally, the wine is bottled and rests for 24 months before being sold.

2016 El Sueño Bobal Cepas Centenarias Caliza 2016 is a smooth red wine with intense aromas of ripe black fruit and aromatic herbs. On the palate it is intense, flavoursome and deep. The tannins give it a rustic and robust edge.
