Ultreia El Agro 2022 offers an experience that begins with its deep red hue. About Ultreia El Agro

The Camino de Santiago, the network of pilgrimage routes leading to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain, where according to tradition the remains of the apostle James the Greater are located, continues to attract thousands of pilgrims and tourists each year. A medieval tradition that preserves customs and that still endures today. An example of this legacy can be found in the pilgrims' greeting; Ultreia was a medieval term used on the Camino de Santiago to encourage one another, meaning, "Let's go further," "Let's go forward", referring to the idea of pressing on to reach their destination. It is with this meaning that Raúl Pérez, one of the most renowned winemakers on the Iberian Peninsula with over 200 different labels to his name and a 100-point Parker rating in his career, presents his most personal project, Ultreia, in Bierzo, in Castilla y León (Spain). A winery whose starting point lies in the vineyards he most admires and has dignified with wines that are truly outstanding.  

As a result of this project, he introduces Ultreia El Agro, a single-varietal wine made from the indigenous mencía grape from old vines located in the village of Valtuille de Abajo. Vines planted in ancient alluvial soils cultivated with utmost respect for the natural balance of the terroir, using ecological techniques. The harvest is done manually and, once in the winery, the whole bunches of grapes ferment in wooden tronconic vats, with long macerations and no temperature control. Afterwards, the wine ages for 12 months in wood and is finally bottled without clarification or filtration.

The result is Ultreia El Agro. A true tribute to the roots and lands that saw the growth of who is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic figures in the current Spanish wine scene. An Atlantic wine full of vitality made for enjoyment and beyond.

Ultreia El Agro 2020 is an elegant and intense red wine. On the nose, it reveals fresh aromas of red fruits such as strawberries and cherries, accompanied by a hint of wild berries and a subtle iodine nuance. On the palate, it is fresh and vibrant, with smooth tannins and a high, pleasant acidity. Its finish is long and flavourful. This Atlantic wine is fresh, mineral, very well-balanced and elegant, with a fluid profile that makes it highly enjoyable to drink.
