Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Auslese White Capsule is a monovarietal Riesling white wine produced by Markus Molitor. It is a white classified by the VDP as a Mosel-Saar-Ruwer wine.

Molitor is a winery that has been run by the family whose surname it bears for 8 generations. The latest to take the reins,

Markus Molitor, decided to take charge of the family winery in 1984 when he was 20 years old. The winery has belonged to the same family for 8 generations and since its inception its aim has been to produce the best Riesling in Moselle. It cultivates Pinot Blanc and Riesling in plots with slate soils. Their oldest vineyards are around 100 years old and are planted without grafting. The plots are on slopes facing the river and some have an incline of up to 80%.

The plot for Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Auslese White Capsule is found in the mythical Bernkasteler Doctor vineyard. Their vines are up to 100 years old, and the soil is made up of small layers of slate and produce extremely aromatic ripe grapes.

To produce Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Auslese White Capsule, only the healthy grapes previously selected in the vineyard are vinified. In the cellar they are pressed gently and the must is macerated for several hours with its aromatic skins. After maceration, it ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and large wooden barrels. Lastly, the fermentation is followed by ageing on lees for a few months so that the wine gains complexity, volume and creaminess.

2017 Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Auslese White Capsule 2017 offers a beautiful nose of citrus, grapefruit, pear and spices, all enhanced by floral and mineral notes. The wine is well structured, is fresh on the palate and leaves a magnificent floral touch in a lingering and dazzling acidic finish.
