About MacRobert & Canals La Nave Blanco

When Bryan MacRobert first arrived in La Rioja, he had already heard about this corner of northwestern Spain. Direct from Swartland, South Africa, the winemaker was surprised by the large number of wines produced under the “economy of scale”, the main consequence of which was “the loss of expressiveness and richness, of quality and authenticity of the wines.” How could this be possible in the Old World? How could this be happening so often in a land so rich, varied and full of nuances? Bryan MacRobert is against this, and that is how his wine MacRobert & Canals La Nave Blanco were born.

Without giving up on sales and making money, MacRobert & Canals La Nave Blanco is a wine that, despite being accessible, tries to reflect all the colours of the D.O. Ca. La Rioja. A much more approachable and affordable wine without sacrificing quality or excellence. The origin of MacRobert & Canals La Nave Blanco lies in the vineyards that have been selected throughout the length and breadth of La Rioja, in each of its three sub-zones, which blend in a fusion of soils, climates and varieties from the entire region.

Total respect for the vineyard and aging in concrete tanks are also key to the story of MacRobert & Canals La Nave Blanco. In particular, this white wine is harvested and taken directly to the 300 m2 that the company uses as a winery. Here, far from the traditional wood that abounds in the rest of the Riojan wineries, stainless steel and concrete have a key role (at least in the case of MacRobert & Canals La Nave Blanco, which will rest in cement for a few months on its lees).
