About La Vieille Ferme Rouge

Not every wine is accessible to every person. Great wines made by prestigious family wineries in the Old World are unfortunately only affordable to a privileged few. Fortunately, however, there are some great winemaking families that, with their business hats on, as well as their look-don't-touch wines, also make some lovely wines for lower budgets. This is true of the Perrin family, wine aristocrats who, as well as making wines in their leading brands like Château de Beaucastel, Miraval and Domaine du Clos des Tourelles, also make more commercial wines designed for everyone, like this La Vieille Ferme Rouge. A pleasant wine with excellent value for money.

Made at Vieille Ferme, a winery owned by the Perrin family in the southern Rhône Valley (France), La Vieille Ferme Rouge is a blend of Garnacha Tinta, Syrah, Cariñena and Cinsault. Lying within the AOC Luberon denomination, the vines are arranged on gently sloping hillsides on red Mediterranean soils mixed with calcareous detritus and ancient alluvium round stones. These vines are cultivated using organic agriculture and no fertilisers, pesticides or any other chemicals. Once the grapes have reached optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand and taken to the winery where they are selected and destemmed. Each variety is vinified separately in 150 and 300 hectolitre cement tanks. The wines are then devatted and blended before being aged for 10 months in tanks and large oak barrels.

Juicy, fresh and flavoursome, La Vieille Ferme Rouge is simply about making people happy. But, of course, made by one of the greats and ridiculously good value. If you don’t try it, it can only be because you don’t want to...

La Vieille Ferme Rouge 2022 beckons us on a journey through an orchard of sun-ripened fruit with every sip. Bringing it to the nose, we are greeted by a cornucopia of scents suggesting blackberries and currants, interwoven with hints of spice that pique our curiosity. Upon the palate, this red wine is succulent and approachable, with a velvety texture that renders each quaff smooth and delightful. The tannins are gentle, almost silky, forging an impeccable balance that crescendos into a lingering finish, leaving us with an enduring impression of its vibrant fruitiness.
2019

La Vieille Ferme Rouge 2019 is a juicy red wine with pleasant aromas of small red fruit accompanied by spicy notes. On the palate it is very fresh, light and fruity. A wine with crisp acidity, silky tannins and a long finish with remarkable persistence in the aftertaste.
