About Jose Gil Viñedos en San Vicente de la Sonsierra

"JASP", an acronym for "Jóvenes Aunque Sobradamente Preparados", gained popularity in Spain in 1995 thanks to a television advertising campaign for a new model from a well-known car brand. The advertisement targeted a generation of young people who, despite their youth, were well-educated and ready to face the challenges of the professional and social world. Such was its success that it became a cultural phenomenon, defining an era and capturing the spirit of a generation that felt prepared and capable of achieving success. It is with this same spirit that Jose Gil, a Joven Aunque Sobradamente Preparado, after completing his studies in oenology, spending extended periods in Burgundy and Germany, and working in the family-owned winery, established his own project alongside his partner Vicky Fernández in the Riojan village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. Wines crafted in a Burgundian style that perfectly embody the soul of their origin.

In the case of Jose Gil Viñedos en San Vicente de la Sonsierra, it is a village wine composed of several vineyards located at altitudes starting from 500 meters, sourced from different sites in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. Old vines of tempranillo, garnacha, and viura on clay-limestone and sandy soils with limestone marl are cultivated organically without herbicides and harvested manually in 200-kilogram crates. Once in the winery, the selected and destemmed grapes, with a small percentage of stems, ferment with indigenous yeasts in concrete and stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine remains for 10 months in concrete and used French oak barrels of 500 and 300 liters.

Committed to meticulous vineyard work and rigorous microvinification, Jose Gil Viñedos en San Vicente de la Sonsierra is a wine integrated into the DOCa Rioja that perfectly represents the spirit of this young yet highly prepared couple who are making waves among the most discerning circles.

Jose Gil Viñedos en San Vicente de la Sonsierra 2023 is a red wine that embodies the essence of a vintage less warm and more balanced than 2022. With an elegant moderation in its alcohol content, it exhibits a sobriety that promises to evolve over time. On the palate, its structure is refined, with fine and silky tannins that envelop the palate with a delicate texture. Still in its youth, it already hints at its depth and character, inviting discovery with each sip.

Jose Gil Viñedos en San Vicente de la Sonsierra 2022 is a fruity, fresh, and profound red wine. On the nose, it offers aromas of strawberry and blackberry, complemented by hints of liquorice, caramel, and violets. On the palate, it provides a flavourful passage with good texture, where subtle wood notes and well-integrated tannins can be perceived. The fruit is always the protagonist, set against an aniseed and earthy background. A wine with a concentrated profile, produced in a limited edition of 15,000 bottles.
