About Horizonte de Exopto Blanco

Horizonte de Exopto is a white wine from the D.O. La Rioja produced by the Exopto winery. This wine is a blend of three different grape varieties: Viura (85%), Garnacha Blanca (10%) and other white varieties (5%).
 

When we think of the D.O. La Rioja, we tend to think of their reds, which are have found international fame and are characterised by their long barrel ageing. However it seems that the white wines produced in the region are slowly catching up, usually produced with the Viura variety, which seem to surprise and delight those who try it. The region is located between the Atlantic and Mediterranean seas, home to an important mountainous terrain, with a transition climate.
 

The grapes used for this wine come from vineyards that a between 50 and 80 years old, which grow on calcareous clay soils. After the best grapes have been selected, they are manually harvest using 12kg at largest capacity boxes.
 

Once at the winery, the grapes pass through a stage of maceration which lasts for six days. Horizonte de Exopto then ferments on its lees in 225 litre French oak barrels. The wine is then bottled without being aged. The Horizonte de Exopto is also produced in limited production, at only 2,500 bottles per vintage.

Exopto is a word that derives from latin, meaning “to desire with strength”. Exopto is a word that comes from Latin and means "to desire strongly." Well you can use this latinismo to describe the feeling you feel to taste wines from the cellar for the first time. This is a wine that deviates from the norm for Rioja wines and shows a strong personality.

2021 Horizonte de Exopto Blanco 2021 is a wine that offers pleasant citrus and aniseed aromas on the nose. Notes of white flowers and thyme also appear. The palate is fresh and very lively thanks to its balanced acidity. An enveloping white wine with a delicious mineral touch on the finish.

Horizonte de Exopto Blanco 2019 is an exquisite white wine. The bouquet is nuanced and intricate. On the palate, it is flavoursome, refined, boasting well-balanced acidity. It's invigorating with a saline finish.

Lactic nuances and ripe fruit aromas - predominantly peach, pear, and apricot - are intertwined with hints of spice.
