About Guillot-Broux Bourgogne Les Geniévrières

When famous Californian winemaker André Tchelistcheff said, “Cabernet Sauvignon was made by God and Pinot Noir was made by the devil,” he was right. If there is one thing the exquisite queen Pinot Noir variety is known for, it is its complexity and sensitivity both in the vineyard and in the winery. Not very tolerant to changes and very susceptible to diseases, it is certainly not an easy grape to work with. However, its elegance and delicacy make it a cult variety loved by the most demanding winelovers. Domaine Guillot-Broux is a winery that has experienced first-hand the difficulty of taming Pinot Noir. Founded in 1978 by Jean-Gerard Guillot and his wife Jacqueline Broux in Cruzille, it is now run by their two sons Patrice (vineyard manager) and Emmanuel (sales and marketing). They have a total of 17 hectares of vineyards located in the three villages of Cruzille, Grévilly and Chardonnay, which allows the production of fine, elegant and very mineral wines.

Guillot-Broux Bourgogne Les Geniévrières, is a single-variety Pinot Noir that has required hundreds of trials to understand the vine and winemaking. This wine comes from a 1.9 hectare vineyard planted in 1991 on clay and limestone soils in the municipality of Grevilly. Certified organic, natural methods are used to control diseases and avoid leaving residues in the wines. Once the grapes are harvested by hand at optimum ripeness, they are destemmed, macerated and fermented in the winery for a minimum of 15 days. Finally, the wine ages for 11 months in French oak barrels.

With a great capacity for aging and a record of spectacular elegance and minerality, Guillot-Broux Bourgogne Les Geniévrières from the AOC Mâcon is a clear example of the natural beauty of the well tamed Pinot Noir. A cuvée that is pure art.

Guillot-Broux Bourgogne Les Geniévrières 2017 is a smooth red wine with a delicate bouquet of black fruit, violet aromas and hints of oak. On the palate it is delicate, fresh and elegant. A wine of great finesse with a marked mineral character and a long, fruity finish.
