About Château Croix Mouton

Château Croix Mouton is a barrel-aged red wine made by Château Croix Mouton in the AOC Bordeaux Supérieur (Bordeaux) designation with the Merlot and Cabernet Franc varieties.

Jean-Philippe Janoueix began his winemaking project under the name of Château Mouton, but to prevent conflict with Mouton-Rothschild, he changed the name to Croix Mouton in 2002. He has 19 hectares of old vines and makes very accessible wines with a fruity Burgundy character.

Château Croix Mouton comes from 40-year-old vines planted in clay and alluvial soils. A total of 70 hectares where there are between 3,600 and 6,000 vines per hectare. Conventional agriculture is practiced and the yield is limited to 46 hectolitres per hectare.

In the winery, the grapes are selected and destemmed. To make the Château Croix Mouton, the grapes ferment in concrete and stainless steel tanks with regular cap plunges at a constant temperature of 28ºC for 22 days. The wine then ages in barrels for 12 months; 50% in new barrels and 50% in used barrels.

Château Croix Mouton is Jean-Philippe Janoueix’s flagship wine. A pure Bordeaux wine at a very affordable price.
