About Gut Oggau Bertholdi

Gut Oggau Bertholdi is the high-end natural red wine from the Gut Oggau biodynamic winery that is made in Neusiedlersee-Hügelland (Burgenland) with the native Blaufränkisch variety.

The Gut Oggau collection is made up of Stephanie and Eduard Tscheppe’s creations. A couple of winemakers who, in 2007, acquired an 18-hectare abandoned estate with the aim of making a whole range of natural wines with their own identity. They put so much work into this project that Gut Oggau is currently considered one of the best ranges of natural wines in the world.

Gut Oggau Bertholdi comes from a unique Blaufränkisch variety vineyard planted in calcareous and slate soil. They always work to maintain the natural balance of the strain using biodynamic methods and no chemical products. A low yield production that is harvested manually.

In the winery, the grapes are destemmed and macerated for 8 weeks. Gut Oggau Bertholdi ferments spontaneously with native yeasts in oak vats. It then ages for 24 months in 500-litre oak barrels. When the wine is ready, it is bottled without clarifying, filtering or adding sulphites.

Gut Oggau Bertholdi is one of the high-end products from one of the most prestigious natural wineries in Austria. In short, a masterful wine represented by the grandfather figure of the family.
