About Taittinger Nocturne
Legend has it that back in the 13th century, the Count of Champagne, Thibaud IV, lost both his mind and heart to none other than Blanca of Castile, Queen of France and wife of Louis VIII. The king, as one might expect, did not receive the news graciously and, to rid himself of the suitor, ordered him to depart immediately for the Crusades. A perilous mission from which many did not return... but Thibaud did.
And he did not return empty-handed. On his journey back, he stopped in Cyprus, where he discovered a grape that dazzled him as much as Blanca herself, and decided to bring it to his homeland. Over time, this grape became the renowned chardonnay, the foundation of some of the finest wines and champagnes in the world.
It is thanks to this contribution that Thibaud IV remains one of the most remembered counts of the House of Champagne, in Reims. Today, his legacy lives on in the hands of the Taittinger family, one of the few wineries that still retains the name of its founders since 1734. So much so that every bottle exudes tradition, history, and an unmistakable familial character.
A clear example of this philosophy can be found in Taittinger Nocturne. Its blend combines pinot noir, pinot meunier, and chardonnay from 35 selected vineyards at the peak of ripeness. After a delicate assemblage of about thirty different wines, each bottle rests for at least 4 years on lees before disgorgement. It contains 17.5 grams of sugar per litre and, thanks to its slow maturation, transforms into smoothness, roundness, and a seductive character.
For all these reasons, Taittinger Nocturne is an ideal sparkling wine for the night, where elegance meets enveloping charm and festivity is adorned with sparkle. Because, like those ancient legends, a fine champagne always has the power to surprise and leave a lasting impression.
