About G.D. Vajra Nebbiolo

G.D. Vajra Nebbiolo is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Nebbiolo variety in the Italian denomination of DOC Langhe Nebbiolo (Piedmont) by G.D. Vajra.

G.D. Vajra is a family winery owned by Aldo Vajra, who works to preserve the legacy of his father Giuseppe Domenico Vajra, by making traditional wines with pristine flavours and clearly defined perfumes. It all began in 1972 when Guiseppe started cultivating some family vineyards in the prestigious town of Barolo, and to this day he is working the same vineyards and using them to make exquisitely elegant wines.

G.D. Vajra Nebbiolo is made from the winery's youngest vineyards located in the towns of Barolo and Novello. The vines range in age between four and seven years old and they are planted on steep, south-facing terraces. Environmentally friendly agriculture is used to help preserve the natural balance of the vine and the terroir. The harvest is carried out manually.

In the winery, the best grapes are selected to make G.D. Vajra Nebbiolo, and fermentation begins with native yeasts at a controlled temperature that does not exceed 31ºC for 15-20 days. It then ages for 6 months in stainless steel tanks, with a small portion in wooden barrels.

G.D. Vajra Nebbiolo is a pure, delicate and elegant red. A good introduction to the Nebbiolo variety.

Bringing the glass to the nose reveals intense aromas of ripe cherries and raspberries, accompanied by subtle hints of spices and a slight earthy undertone. On the palate, it is elegant and well-balanced, with smooth tannins and a refreshing acidity that enhances the fruity flavours and leaves a long and pleasing finish.

G.D. Vajra Nebbiolo 2020 is an exquisitely refined red wine. Olfactorily, it is powerful, exuding a bouquet of floral scents (rose petals, violets), ripe fruit, dark berries, lavender, and mint. On the palate, it is intricate, with nuances of orange zest, sweet spices, and earthy minerals. 
2018 G.D. Vajra Nebbiolo 2018 is a concentrated red wine with floral aromas of violets and rose and notes of small ripe berries. On the palate it is voluminous, complex and elegant. A structured wine with marked tannins and well integrated acidity. The finish is lingering and fresh.
