Tasting notes Swartberg Wingerde Miracle Bush Red 2019
Red wine Aged in wood Respectful agriculture.
Swartberg Wingerde Miracle Bush Red 2019 is a gem encapsulating the essence of South African vines. Upon uncorking, you're enveloped by an intense aroma of blackberries and ripe plums, followed by a hint of vanilla and spices derived from its maturation in wood. On the palate, it presents as robust, with a velvety texture that fills the mouth and a perfect balance between its juicy fruit and silky tannins. About Swartberg Wingerde Miracle Bush Red
Following the profound wisdom of Aristotle, who taught us that "the whole must be greater than the sum of its parts," we find a perfect analogy in the world of wine, particularly when it comes to blending. A fine assemblage not only brings components together but transforms the good into something sublime, where each element contributes its unique essence to create something far greater than the sum of its parts.
Rudiger Gretschel, the winemaker behind projects such as Vinimark and Reyneke, is an expert in bringing this philosophy to life. With over 20 years of experience, he has traversed Piekenierskloof in search of the finest parcels for his personal project Swartberg Wingerde, a true reflection of his vision. Here, the blending process is executed with unparalleled meticulousness, ensuring that each grape variety contributes its best to the ensemble.
This is the case with Swartberg Wingerde Miracle Bush Red, a wine that is, in essence, a masterpiece of blending. Grenache, Syrah, and Pinotage are perfectly combined, each imparting its character, and together creating a unique sensory experience.
The vinification process of Swartberg Wingerde Miracle Bush Red is a clear reflection of this philosophy. The grapes, grown in alluvial soils and bush vineyards, are harvested by hand, ensuring only the best reaches the winery. After harvesting, the grapes are chilled overnight to maintain their freshness. The Pinotage is completely destemmed, while some whole berries are incorporated into the fermentation of the Syrah and Grenache. Spontaneous fermentations with natural yeasts in concrete tanks allow for a pure expression of the varieties. Finally, the wine matures for 16 months in a blend of French foudres and barrels, with a light toast on the wood to preserve the fruit's freshness.
This meticulous process allows the fine tannins of the Pinotage, the depth of the Syrah, and the freshness of the Grenache to merge in harmony, resulting in an elegant, complex, and memorable wine. Ultimately, Swartberg Wingerde Miracle Bush Red is a clear example of how a fine assemblage can transform the good into something sublime.
