About Roagna Barolo Rocche di Castiglione
In Castiglione Falletto, nestled in the north of Italy, the Roagna Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is crafted, a red wine that will undoubtedly captivate your senses.
Amidst the province of Cuneo, in the illustrious Piedmont region, lies this historic vineyard perched atop a hill. Solely planted with nebbiolo vines, some exceeding 30 years of age, the 0.48 hectares of this plot boast unparalleled and distinctive characteristics the world over: clay-limestone soils (comprising soft rock and sand), a southern exposure, and an elevation of around 300 meters. Presently, these factors are meticulously managed by the Roagna family, who acquired the estate in 2016. Since then, they have consistently produced exceptional red wines, always grounded in their commitment to organic cultivation and environmental stewardship. It is imperative to consider not only the present but also the future and the condition in which subsequent generations will inherit these vineyards.
However, the Roagna winery is particularly renowned for its extensive macerations and protracted aging in wood, spanning several years. This meticulous process achieves two objectives: on one hand, it captures the essence of the terroir (as if taking a photograph); on the other, it mellows and tames the robust tannins and the intense character of the nebbiolo grape. In this manner, Roagna Barolo Rocche di Castiglione will be harvested, transported to the winery, and processed, then transferred to tanks where the skins will remain in contact with the must for 60 to 100 days. Concurrently, a starter culture (using indigenous yeasts) is prepared to initiate the alcoholic fermentation. Finally, Roagna Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is racked and transferred to wooden barrels, where it will age for approximately four to five years (depending on the vintage).
The essence of one of Italy's historic territories encapsulated in a bottle. The production is exceedingly limited, with only 2,713 bottles available. Don't miss out!
