About Mas Comtal Rosat de Llàgrima
You've probably heard of “flying winemakers”. This is what people call winemakers who, rather than stick to one place, prefer to work in and oversee different wineries, bringing their own style to the character of each terroir. One of the first oenologists in Spain to work like this was Joan Milà. A wine consultant, professor and writer, his contribution was truly unfathomable. He brought new vision to the vineyard, the grape and the terroir, but also had the courage to break free from conventional practices at the family winery he ran with his brother Albert, Mas Comtal in the D.O. Penedès (Catalonia)
The 1993 launch of their Mas Comtal Rosat de Llàgrima rosé wine undoubtedly opened a new chapter in terms of quality rosé wines from Penedès, which had been unheard of until then. With “Bordeaux” Merlots as a reference, it wasn’t long before he became a true magician with this variety and his wine became the first quality rosé made with Merlot. This not only allowed Mas Comtal to position itself as an innovative and high quality winery, but it also helped to demystify the bad reputation rosés had at the time.
Made from 100% organic vines, the Mas Comtal Rosat de Llàgrima grapes are macerated destemmed for about 12 hours. Fermentation then begins in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 14-15ºC for 15 days to obtain the maximum aromatic range in the glass.
Mas Comtal Rosat de Llàgrima is a gourmet wine that men and women of all ages will love. A pioneer of its kind where success lies in every glass that is poured. Undoubtedly the most precious legacy of a great master.
2021 | Mas Comtal Rosat de Llàgrima 2021 is an outstanding rosé, boasting a radiant raspberry hue that is both striking and captivating. Olfactorily, it is remarkably intense, with strawberry aromas that blend seamlessly with citrus undertones (grapefruit, lemon), mint, and the scent of freshly mown grass. On the palate, it is luscious and refreshing, eminently quaffable, with a very congenial and delightful acidity. It is savory, yet simultaneously possesses the vigor and structure of a red wine. |

2020 |
Mas Comtal Rosat de Llàgrima 2020 is a complex rosé wine with an intense red colour and thick and rather slow legs, hence its name Llàgrima (tear in Catalan). On the nose there are aromas of ripe red fruit, herbal touches and hints of sweet spices. On the palate it is flavoursome, fresh and fruity. A wine with good acidity, fine spices and refreshing persistence. |
|
2012 | Powerful and fresh in the mouth, very well structured and very appetising. A very enjoyable rosé wine. Excellent value. Pretty and intense raspberry pink colour. Very clean and bright. Intensely aromatic nose, clean and fresh. Aromas of red fruits -strawberries, raspberries, redcurrents with a cirtrus note of grapefruit and lemon, well combined with notes of fresh herbs and a light menthol background. |
|
2011 | A rosé as well-bodied as a red wine. It shows a good, fresh, light and very tasty mid palate in which the fruit coats the mouth with its sweetness and freshness. Very good acidity and a very good finish reminiscent of light herbal and slightly bitter sensations. Friendly and cheerful Spanish wine for all kind of events. Intense and bright raspberry pink colour. Intense and concentrated aromas with fresh red fruit in the foreground, nuanced by aromatic floral notes and subtle herbal touches. |
|
2010 | Powerful and very fresh rosé wine, with a good attack and a fresh and very tasty mid palate. The red fruit (with a touch of candy) is shown at its best. Balanced acidity and a lingering finish with a light touch of bitterness.
Intense and bright raspberry pink. Very intense aromas, with lots of fresh berries along with floral and herbal touches and some anise. |
|
2009 | Range of aromas reminiscent of small red fruits and some floral tone. |
