About Markus Molitor Alte Reben Mosel Trocken
Markus Molitor Alte Reben Mosel Trocken is a monovarietal Riesling white wine produced by the Markus Molitor winery. It is classified as a wine from the VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer.
Markus Molitor, current manager of the winery that bears his name, decided to take charge of the family business in 1984, when he was 20 years old. The winery has been run by the Molitor family for 8 generations. However, since its inception its aim has been to produce the best Riesling in Moselle. It cultivates Pinot Blanc and Riesling, and some of its plots have slate soils and are on slopes that have an incline of up to 80%.
The vineyards for Markus Molitor Alte Reben Mosel Trocken are among the winery’s oldest. Their strains are between 80 and 100 years old and are found on steep plots on the banks of the Moselle, in the Middle Moselle. They are harvested manually so that the clusters arrive in the cellar whole and without breakages.
Once in the cellar the Markus Molitor Alte Reben Mosel Trocken harvest is pressed, and the must then macerates for a few hours with the skins to extract its aromatic compounds. After fermentation the must ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and large wooden barrels. Lastly, the wine is aged for a few months on lees to give it complexity and creaminess.
Markus Molitor Alte Reben Mosel Trocken is a dry, fresh and aromatic manual Moselle Riesling balanced by a great minerality, a complex palate and a lingering aftertaste.

2017 | Markus Molitor Alte Reben Mosel Trocken 2017 combines typical ripe and concentrated Riesling flavours with the characteristic slate aroma of Moselle soils. It is a very elegant white, with perfectly ripe and balanced fruit and an exquisite, juicy, spicy, salty and persistent finish. |
