About La Conreria Primera Vinya Les Brugueres
A “conreria” is a Catalan term used in the past to describe a country house attached to a convent that was home to those who worked the land. At the Scala Dei Monastery, in the Priorat region (Catalonia), an abbey built in 1194, the Carthusian monks were responsible for planting the region’s first vines. And it is in honour of this glorious past that a group of people historically linked to the world of wine founded a winery under the name La Conreria. With an exceptional location, at the foot of the Montsant mountain range, they produce a variety of quality wines with an authentic DOQ Priorat profile.
With 26.5 hectares of vineyards spread over different parts of Priorat, they produce wines like La Conreria Primera Vinya Les Brugueres. This is a single-variety Grenache Blanc from a small estate of just over 1 hectare with slate soils and lying at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level. These old vines were planted in 1978 and are traditionally cultivated and harvested at the optimum point of ripeness. In the winery, the selected grapes undergo a 48-hour maceration with skins and fermentation in 400-litre French oak barrels. The wine is then aged on its own lees in these same containers for 9 months and it finally rests in the bottle for another 6 months before being released for sale.
With a limited production of three barrels, La Conreria Primera Vinya Les Brugueres is an aged white wine that honours the origins of one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world. A real Priorat pleasure.
2020 | La Conreria d'Scala Dei Primera Vinya Les Brugueres 2020 is a creamy white wine with aromas of stone fruits, floral notes and honeyed and toasted touches. On the palate it is fresh, unctuous and balanced. A glyceric wine with good acidity, a warm mid-palate and a long finish with light mint notes in the aftertaste. |
