About La Conreria Voltons
La Conreria was born when a group of wine enthusiasts decided to join forces to give a voice to unique parts of the DOQ Priorat. With no other aim than to reflect the work they inherited from the La Cartoixa d'Scala Dei monks eight centuries ago, they produce traditional wines from the marvellous slate soils that cover the Priorat terraces.
Within its range of wines we find true treasures like this La Conreria Voltons. Ranked among the 50 best wines in the world by Decanter 2021, this is a very special wine that combines vines between 20 and more than 100 years old. A blend of the area’s traditional varieties including Garnacha Tinta and Carignan grown in the “Voltons” area, in the town of Vilella Alta (DOQ Priorat). A very special terrain where vineyards, olive trees and almond trees happily grow alongside each other on the llicorella slate soil that is typical of this wine-growing region. To make this wine, they follow the traditional method in the vineyard and in the winery. Once harvested, the grapes undergo cold maceration before beginning alcoholic fermentation, which is carried out with the skins in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The wine then rests for a few months in these same tanks and is aged in 500-litre French and Austrian oak barrels for 12 months. Finally, it rests for another 18 months in the bottle before being released for sale.
The fruit of centuries-old vines cultivated with the same care and passion over three generations, La Conreria Voltons is a tasty, elegant and very expressive red wine. A legacy of a historic past.
2018 | La Conreria d'Scala Dei Voltons 2018 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of red fruits, notes of Mediterranean herbs and hints of smoke and wet slate stone. On the palate it is fresh and well structured with body. A medium-bodied wine with noticeable acidity, fine tannins and a long, mineral finish with a lively aftertaste. |
