About Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino
In the picturesque region of Montalcino (Tuscany), renowned for its Brunello wine, there lies a hidden treasure that has been an integral part of rural life for centuries: chestnuts. In the forests and mountains of this beautiful Tuscan landscape, chestnuts grow robustly and are meticulously harvested, in a process that connects past generations with the present. To preserve them throughout the year, chestnut drying sheds are the secret to maintaining their quality intact: a natural, unhurried process that reflects the leisurely pace of this wonderful Italian region.
It is within this context that Il Marroneto, a name that pays homage to those traditional chestnut drying sheds, has established itself as an iconic winery of Montalcino. With a philosophy that honours both the agricultural and winemaking roots of the region, Il Marroneto has achieved a unique harmony that translates into one of the finest expressions of sangiovese in all of Italy. Its Brunello di Montalcino is the ultimate representation of this land, a wine that embodies the soul of the region. Sourced from 10 hectares of vineyards located on the northern side of Montalcino, in calcareous and sandy soils, the sangiovese of Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino benefits from the best conditions to grow with intensity and purity. Then, in the winery, the vinification process is meticulous, respectful of the terroir, and at the same time, innovative. The fermentation is vigorous, with frequent pump-overs and the use of indigenous yeasts, while maceration lasts around 10 days. Finally, the wine rests for at least 36 months in 26-hectolitre Slavonian oak vats, bestowing upon this wine its complexity, elegance, and depth.
The result is Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino, a wine that, much like the chestnuts of Montalcino, connects with the land, the landscapes, and the traditions of the region, offering a unique sensory experience that reveals the character of this very special part of Tuscany.
