About Gran Cruor Selecció Samsó
Landscape painting is a common form of artistic expression that seeks to capture the beauty and atmosphere of natural surroundings. Artists can portray a variety of landscapes, such as mountains, forests, beaches, rivers or cities, using their personal style and creative interpretation. Similarly, the winemaker of the Casa Gran del Siurana winery, Anna Gallisà Mestre, paints the Priorat landscape in bottle format. Unique wines are the result of meticulous work in the vineyard and a respectful accompaniment in the cellar that identify an idyllic spot with a long-standing winemaking tradition. In this way, since the beginning of the project in 2000, winemaker and landscape go hand in hand to showcase the excellence of the region.
Within a rich and varied portfolio, if there is one wine that has stolen the winemaker's heart, it is undoubtedly Gran Cruor Selecció Samsó. A single varietal carignan (samsó in Catalan) that comes from 80-year-old vines planted on llicorella (Priorat slate) soil on both terraces and slopes. Their work is environmentally-friendly and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the cellar, the selected grapes are macerated for 25–30 days and fermented with native yeasts at a controlled temperature of 26ºC. The wine is then aged in 225-litre French oak barrels for 16 months.
Like a painter on a canvas, Gran Cruor Selecció Samsó is a pure reflection of the virtues of Priorat. A wine that, thanks to the meticulous work of its winemaker, the carignan personality on slate soil expresses itself wonderfully.
2014 | Gran Cruor Selecció Samsó 2014 is a flavoursome red wine with aromas of ripe berries, liquorice notes and hints of menthol and chocolate. On the palate it is meaty, fresh and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with round tannins and well-integrated acidity. The finish is flavoursome and long. |
