About Cortes de Cima Incógnito
In 1988, the American-Danish couple Carrie and Hans Jørgensen arrived in Alentejo, Portugal, by sailboat, in search of a place to settle and cultivate a vineyard. Discovering fertile and rich land, surrounded by white grape varieties, they decided to plant red varieties, marking the beginning of what we now know as Cortes de Cima. Their bold vision and innovative spirit gave rise to Cortes de Cima Incógnito, a wine born from the first syrah vines planted in Alentejo. In 1991, Hans planted these vines with grafts brought directly from the Rhône, on a limestone hilltop, unaware that this vineyard would become one of Alentejo's great landmarks. Today, their daughter Anna Jørgensen continues the family legacy, preserving her parents' essence but with her own approach and work philosophy.
Cortes de Cima Incógnito is, without a doubt, the jewel of Cortes de Cima. The syrah grapes are meticulously selected to ensure their excellent ripeness. The vinification is carried out with precision: fermentation, without the stems and with regular destemming, is conducted at a controlled temperature. A long period of skin maceration intensifies the fruity aromas and provides a perfect balance, along with a robust tannic structure. The wine then ages for 8 months in French oak barrels (90%) and American oak (10%), which imparts complexity and elegance.
Cortes de Cima Incógnito is born from the courage of a family willing to explore new paths and break with convention. As its name suggests, it is a mysterious wine, full of character and with a potential that continues to astonish, leaving an indelible mark on the wine landscape of Alentejo.
