Château La Gaffelière

2022

Red wine Aged in wood. 16 meses en barrica and 8 meses en botella.
The previous vintages were good, but Château La Gaffelière 2022 far surpasses them. This is the best wine for many years, with intense aromas and body. This juicy red features wild berries, violets, lilacs, liquorice and cocoa. The palate is deep, with vibrant fruit and polished tannins. Long and delicious finish.

About Château La Gaffelière
There are many trends in the wine business. Every decade is usually dominated by a fashion. The styles and methods of winemaking change over time and, obviously, some producers have no choice but to follow the prevailing trends. Even so, there is a group of wineries that are able to resist. Faithful to their most classic vinifications, they maintain a unique style. As a result, they become unmistakable and timeless, like the Château La Gaffelière red.
Entirely French and faithful to its tradition, this property, currently run by the Malet family, remains one of the leaders in the A.O.C. Saint-Emilion. It may well have experienced some ups and downs (three centuries is a long time), but today Château La Gaffelière is synonymous with quality, tradition and modernity. All their work is carried out on the 38 hectares that are currently part of the property (22 hectares of which are Première Cru Classé). This land is divided into three zones: the limestone plateau (with clays and green loams), the south coast (very good for cultivation due to its orientation) and the seashore (with deep sands). Every one of these vineyards, with an average age of 35 years, have been planted recently and, although the soils are mechanically cultivated, the rest of the work tends to be totally respectful of the environment (including the harvest, which is done by hand).
During the first night, when the grape bunches arrive at the winery, cold storage is crucial. Here, the ten kilogram boxes remain inside for a few hours until the next morning when the production process begins. First there is the selection process (on a conveyor belt) and then Château La Gaffelière is processed and vatted by gravity in one of the 20 stainless steel tanks, with an inverted cone shape, installed in the vat room (refurbished in 2013). Each plot is fermented separately, each batch going its own way: while some tanks will be perfect after the first fermentation, others will have to wait for malolactic fermentation. The refined taste and the trained palate of the winemakers is what makes the decision.
Finally, Château La Gaffelière is aged for 14 to 16 months in barrels (half of which are new) in a thermoregulated concrete dome with controlled humidity. Each of the plots ages separately and, following a decision making process, they are blended and bottled. However, this is not the end of the road for Château La Gaffelière because, during the summer months, this red wine is stored to ensure that Château La Gaffelière is in perfect condition when it is poured into everyone’s glasses. If you like a guarantee, choose Château La Gaffelière. A safe bet with quality at the forefront!
2023 | Château La Gaffelière 2023 is a slightly mature and full-bodied red wine. On the nose, it reveals aromas of black fruits such as blackberries and plums, accompanied by subtle hints of vanilla and spices. On the palate, it presents a smooth and well-structured texture, with rounded tannins that provide a pleasant persistence. Its barrel aging adds complexity and depth, making each sip a delightful experience. |
