About Bucci Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico

Verdicchio is one of Italy’s star white grapes. Although this variety has not enjoyed the same fame as other international white varieties, it demonstrates a unique personality and versatility. The fact that it is a very localised grape variety found in the Marche, in eastern Italy, between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, has made it the true ambassador of this wine region. And the Bucci family, who have been making wine since the 1700s, are experts in working with it. Their newest winery built in 1930 in Villa Ostra, Villa Bucci, covers an area of 400 hectares, 25 hectares of which are occupied by vineyards that are part of the DOC Verdicchio Castelli di Jesi.

An earthly paradise where the Verdicchio grape is the true queen and where, thanks to the Mediterranean climate and mineral-rich soils, the fruit is given enough nerve and structure to create real treasures. One of their gems is Bucci Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico, a single-variety Verdicchio from vineyards with different exposures, different altitudes (from 220 to 380 m.) and different ages, from 15 to 45 years. Vines grown organically and limiting production to the maximum and with heavy pruning. The grapes are harvested by hand and, once in the winery, the winemaking process takes place separately for each vineyard. The grapes are selected, destemmed and gently pressed, and the must obtained from the first pressing is fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for a few months in large oak barrels with its own lees and then bottled by blending the different wines. Finally, the wine spends 6 months in the bottle before being sold.

With more than one vintage considered one of the best white wines in the “100 Most Exciting Wines” ranking in the American Wine Enthusiast magazine, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico is a fragrant white wine that is rich and harmonious in equal parts.

2020

Bucci Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico 2020 is an aromatic white wine with fragrances of apple blossom, citrus notes and hints of fennel. On the palate it is fresh, fruity and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with lively acidity, a silky mid-palate and a long, mineral finish.
