About Boris Champy Coteaux Bourguignons Gamay Fin
There are individuals who, upon choosing a path, pursue it with unwavering passion and determination. Boris Champy epitomises this perfectly. Born in Champagne (France), upon deciding to delve into the world of oenology, he did not settle for the basics. His university education was merely the first step. He spent ten years honing his craft in Napa Valley, California, before taking on the role of technical director at Maison Louis Latour. Subsequently, he became the manager and winemaker at Clos des Lambrays, one of the most iconic vineyards in Burgundy.
However, his legacy extends beyond high-end wines. Boris has consistently demonstrated a profound commitment to the environment. He was a pioneer in creating an association for its protection, and when he decided to launch his own project in Nantoux, in the Hautes-Côtes of Burgundy, he not only aimed to bring attention to this little-explored high-altitude region with great potential in the face of climate change challenges, but he also made history: his estate became the first in Burgundy to obtain Demeter biodynamic certification.
Today, Boris tackles the challenge of the gamay grape variety with the same passion and audacity, a red grape characteristic of Burgundy. Although less renowned than pinot noir, Boris is proving that a gamay can be crafted in the "Burgundian style," with the same precision and elegance as the region's great wines. His track record attests to his success. Indeed, when Boris sets a goal, there is no doubt he achieves it.
Evidence of this can be found in Boris Champy Coteaux Bourguignons Gamay Fin, a wine crafted from very old gamay vines cultivated in three exceptional plots in Nantoux. With biodynamic practices, the harvest is conducted manually, selecting only the grapes at their optimal ripeness. Half of the harvest is destemmed for fermentation, which is carried out with 50% whole cluster in wooden fermenters. Subsequently, the wine matures for 12 months in old oak barrels and vats, imparting a unique complexity.
It is evident that this bold vintner continues to make his mark time and again with each project he undertakes. Boris Champy Coteaux Bourguignons Gamay Fin not only reflects his passion and vision but also his deep love for Burgundy, establishing itself as a true testament to his dedication, commitment to the land, and the viticulture of the future.
