About Bellotti Semplicemente Vino Rosa

Bellotti Semplicemente Vino Rosa is a natural monovarietal Merlot rosé wine produced by Cascina degli Ulivi, in the Piedmont area.

Cascina degli Ulivi is a family farm-winery that has been a pioneer in working the vineyards biodynamically and in producing natural wines: It has worked biodynamically since 1984 and has been producing natural wines since 1977. On the farm they produce wine but also have field of cereals, a vegetable garden and a little livestock. For years the farm has been run by Stefano Bellottu, who has long been considered a master in biodynamics and natural wines. Sadly Stefano died of cancer in 2018 aged 59. His daughter is currently in charge of the winery.

Bellotti Semplicemente Vino Rosa is made with Merlot grapes that come from vineyards cultivated biodynamically and located in the municipality of Tassarolo. Their soils are red clay and the vines are trained using the Guyot system. In total they cover an area of 1.5 hectares, have an average age of about 30 years and produce around 50 hectolitres per hectare. All of them are harvested manually to respect the completeness of the grape as much as possible.

Once in the winery, the Bellotti Semplicemente Rose Wine harvest is pressed directly and fermented in stainless steel tanks and 50hl foudres. Once fermented, it is aged on its fine lees in these same tanks for a period of 3 to 6 months. It is made without adding any sulphites during the different phases of the process.

Bellotti Semplicemente Vino Rosa is a fruity, vinous wine with a pleasantly bitter finish.
2016 On the nose Bellotti Semplicemente Vino Rosa 2016 displays aromas that are especially vinous and decidedly fruity. On the palate its flavour is balanced and pleasant, and is characterised by a slightly bitter finish. The wine is fresh and long-lasting.
